Science Espresso Marathon at Technopolis

  • Sparks Science Espresso Marathon Technopolis Mechelen

During this very special type of marathon, 4 scientists from Kom op tegen Kanker, BruBotics, UAntwerpen and World Biotech Tour will tell you about their research and ask you questions. Scientists who ask for your opinion? Yes, believe it or not: scientists need you!

Take part in the full marathon (or just pick up your favourite topics) and catch your chance to share your opinion on:

  • Deciding with patients! with Ine Doperé, Kom op tegen Kanker. What patients think, feel and experience is very valuable to the Belgian NGO Kom op tegen Kanker ('Come on against Cancer'). The organisation is campaigning for patients to access biomedical research with a special patient committee.
  • Viruses vs. Bacteria with Gilles Verbinnen, a young researcher on bacteriophages. Gilles conducted his research under the World Biotech Tour, a project to encourage young people to conduct research on biotechnology and has recently been invited to present his work at an international conference in Tokyo
  • Away with stigma, here are the cool tools! People in a wheelchair, wairing a prosthesis, using hearing device or a rollator often suffer from stigma linked to the use of medical devices. Kristof Vaes (UAntwerpen) uses all the tools that are tailor-made for patients and combines design, medical features with the unique character of those who are helped to make those tools cool!
  • BruBotics: Robots of the Future with Bram Vanderborght (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). Bram believes that robotics allow people to exploit their full potential, both in industry and in care. He will present some robots used today and what robots might look like in the future.
